There are those days that you wish that you knew how to come up on a pool of spooky fish just the right way. Yesterday, was one of those days. Everytime I would quietly, gently...get anywhere halfway close, whoosh! Fish gone. Did they think that I was BIGFOOT??? Huh...I thought that BIGFOOT was in PA.!! Ok, I know that I am on the tall side and my feet are a little bit larger than I would like. But, really. I went into each area of fish with the slowest and softest approach I could. Really, I did.
I promise...my foot isn't that big!
C'mon...there's no way that my foot made TV news!
So, it was time to change my strategy. This creek is small and tight. There is no room for mistakes with your casting. If your backcast is anywhere close to something green...it will find it! I started with my Sage 9 ft rod. But, with the tangles every 5 min., I figured it was time to head back to the car and grab the Eagle Claw fiberglass 6.6 ft...even though it was bright yellow. I mean, I was spooking fish anyway!
I approached quitely. Hiding behind rocks even! (Does my hair look like a Bigfoot???) = )
After ten more casts into bushes and trees...It happened! A slight pull on the line. A fish, by golly! That fiberglass rod was bending ever so sweetly. "Oh no, you aren't going to get away from me after waiting two hours and snagging twenty bushes and trees"!!!
It was time to go home. Thank you, Eagle Claw and One Bug Is Fake and Spencer Higa's, S.O.S....
I promise to take my yellow rod with me to every creek with spooky fish I visit... <"((((><<

Sunday Tippet: If you don't first succeed...try, try again. Even, if you have big feet.
Now, If you will excuse me...while I go read the Sunday comics...
Funny post Emily.. I have a photography friend, from here, who is doing a Utah Bigfoot photography project..

Brian ~ Yes, sometimes we just have to admit the truth and laugh at ouselves... I wonder why your friend thinks that Bigfoot might be here? = )
DeleteTall, beautiful, big feet, and a truck full of Band-aids and you two ladies will have Bigfoot surrounded!
DeleteMel ~ Kim and I will have the situation handled. = )
DeleteNot sure, but it is an interesting photography project.
DeleteI am looking forward to going fishing with you soon, can't wait to see what you will write!
Brian
Very fun post. One of favorite blogger people DOES have a sense of humor, despite the big feet. (I'll have to check that out!) I think it's the pearly white claws myself.
ReplyDeleteHoward ~ Thanks, but you do know that I have a sense of humor...if I'm still flyfishing despite all my calamities!! Lol.
DeleteWait! I was up early and could have sworn I read something else!
ReplyDeleteCofisher ~ Either you are older than I thought or Blogger is playing tricks on all of us!!
ReplyDeleteAlways good to have a plan B (the yellow rod). The only question I have is what is your foot doing in bed with Al Bundy? Oh wait, you did say that wasn't your foot. Funny post.
ReplyDeleteMark
Mark ~ Lol. It was either Plan B or get skunked. And I had enough frustration with the trees already. So, I decided to persevere!!
DeleteOkay...this post is hilarious! Especially the picture of Al Bundy in bed with that big gnarly foot with the painted toenails! Hahahahahahaha! I always thought that Big Foot lived in the Pacific Northwest, where I grew up, but then I have big feet too. It's because we're tall. I'm 5'8'' so I would look ridiculous with size 6 feet. Did you ever think of it that way? Big Foot Women unite! =)
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I had my first fly fishing lesson yesterday! Nothing to post yet. Just casting in the parking lot and listened to some long winded fishing stories. Hopefully, I'll have my own stories soon. Floating and fly fishing the Coeur d'Alene River in less than 2 weeks! Wish me luck.
Kim ~ Hahahaha. Good point on the shoe size. Yes, we need to have a Tall and Beautiful Bigfoot(heehee)Fly Fishing Club or something! Do I ever wish that I could float the Coeur d'Alene with you...how awesome! Have fun and I will look forward to reading about your trip. = )

ReplyDeleteIt is a killer when you know the trout are there and can even see them at times, but like you said they jet off or better yet just stare at your fly. When this is taking place yes it is worth the effort and the wait to land a colorful trout as you did. Never give up on a fish especially if you know its there and can see it. RD that is what makes you a great angler, patience and determination to get the hit. Thanks for sharing a great post
Oh Bill... You are absolutely right on waiting it out! I could see all eight of them from up above on the beaver dam. BUT, the problem is that they can see you also! Lol. So, I walked down the bank, got in and sneaked up behind them... ; )
